  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 3/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg (room temperature)
  • Tangzhong (from recipe)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons reserved blueberry filling
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the blueberry filling by heating blueberries, brown sugar, lemon juice, water, and cornstarch in a saucepan until thickened.
  2. Make the dough by combining dark brown sugar and softened butter. Then mix in water, flour, yeast, salt, milk, egg, tangzhong, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to rise covered for about an hour until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the blueberry filling evenly over it.
  5. Roll up the dough tightly into a log shape and slice it into rolls.
  6. Place in a greased baking dish and let rise briefly before baking at 350°F (175°C) for about 25 minutes.
  7. While they bake, prepare the frosting by mixing together softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, blueberry filling, and heavy cream until smooth.
  8. Frost warm rolls and enjoy!
