Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups frozen cherries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 tbs corn starch
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 6 tbs unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 3 oz cream cheese
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 13 tbs whole milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cherry filling by combining frozen cherries, sugar, cold water, and corn starch in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until thickened.
  2. Activate the yeast by mixing warm water with active dry yeast; let it sit for about 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  3. In a large bowl, combine whole milk, sugar, eggs, flour, salt, and activated yeast mixture. Mix to form a soft dough and knead until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle and spread the cherry filling evenly before rolling it tightly.
  6. Slice into one-inch pieces and place them on a greased baking tray. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  8. For frosting, mix softened butter and cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth; add milk as needed for consistency.
  9. Drizzle frosting over warm rolls before serving.
