Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 6 oz unsweetened chocolate
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 lb confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Half and half or cream (enough to make spreadable)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. While the cake cools, melt the unsweetened chocolate over low heat.
  8. In a separate bowl, beat together the softened butter and confectioners' sugar; then mix in melted chocolate and enough half-and-half to reach desired frosting consistency.
  9. Once cooled, spread the fudge frosting generously over the cake.
