  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • Zest of an orange, divided
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • Cinnamon for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together cake flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and dark brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, vanilla extract, and orange extract.
  4. Mix in sour cream and half of the dry ingredients alternately with whole milk until just combined.
  5. Fill cupcake liners about two-thirds full with batter.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
  7. For frosting: Beat butter and cream cheese until smooth; add extracts and salt before gradually mixing in confectioner’s sugar.
