  • 1 lb ground turkey (93% lean)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 4 leaves of lettuce
  • 1 small red onion, sliced
  • 1 white onion, sliced (optional)
  • 4 burger buns

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground turkey with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into four equal patties with a slight indentation in the center.
  3. Refrigerate the patties for 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while cooking.
  4. Preheat grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 5-7 minutes per side until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. While cooking, mix mayonnaise with lime juice, cilantro, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper to create Southwest sauce.
  6. Toast burger buns until golden brown.
  7. Assemble by spreading Southwest sauce on the bottom bun followed by the cooked turkey patty and your choice of toppings.
